Celebrating our intercultural city in harmony!
Melton City Council celebrates Harmony Day 2091! This year it was on Saturday 16 March with a community event promoting awareness, acceptance and appreciation of cultural diversity.
Harmony Day, was held at Morton Homestead in Taylors Hill, featuring cultural performances, multicultural food and free children’s activities.
Sharing the message ‘everyone belongs’, Harmony Day is an opportunity for everyone to embrace cultural diversity, meet new and interesting people and share in a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
In the lead up to Cultural Diversity Week, local children were invited to design a poster showing what diversity and harmony means to them. Prizes were awarded for the best posters in two age categories, under 7s and 8-12 year olds, the wining artwork, is featured below.
City of Melton Mayor, Cr Bob Turner, said the celebrations are a wonderful way to recognise the unique experiences, values and skills people from diverse backgrounds bring to our City.
“Our City is home to people from over 130 nations. By coming together for Harmony Day and Cultural Diversity Week we can all learn and understand how every Australian equally belongs to, and enriches, this nation,” Cr Turner said.
